A Love Story Rooted in Tradition: Rachel & Joe’s Wedding at The Colonial

Rachel and Joe’s story began at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where their paths first crossed as student-athletes. Joe was a junior on the baseball team, and Rachel was a freshman on the track team. Through mutual friends — including Rachel’s cousin Andrea, who would later stand beside her as Maid of Honor — the two became part of the same close-knit athletic community.

For nearly three years, they built a strong friendship before that connection naturally grew into something more. When it came time to create their wedding guest list, they realized just how much their college years shaped their lives — over 20 guests were alumni of UMass Lowell athletic teams. Their love story was truly rooted in shared memories, teamwork, and tradition.

A Mountaintop Proposal

In October 2024, Joe proposed on top of Mount Watatic in Ashburnham, Massachusetts — a place that already held special meaning for them. Two years earlier, they had started a tradition of hiking the mountain each fall to catch peak foliage.

On a stunning autumn day, when they reached the summit, Joe asked Rachel to take a panorama photo. As she turned back toward him, he was down on one knee. It was completely unexpected — and absolutely perfect.

Finding the Perfect Venue

When wedding planning began, Rachel and Joe knew exactly what they wanted: a venue where all 200 of their guests could stay overnight in one location. They envisioned a seamless experience — one team handling the food, bar, tablescapes, and even the after-party — so they wouldn’t have to coordinate a dozen different vendors.

Rachel’s cousin suggested they tour The Colonial Hotel, located just 20 minutes from where they got engaged. It immediately felt meant to be.

From the moment they stepped into the ballroom, they knew it was the one. The space was elegant, modern, and welcoming — perfectly suited for their large guest list. Even better, they were able to select a comprehensive wedding package that covered everything they needed, making the planning process significantly less stressful.

A Seamless Celebration

The Colonial team worked closely with Rachel and Joe ahead of the big day to understand their vision and bring it to life. When their wedding day arrived, they truly had nothing to worry about.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds were escorted away for a few quiet moments together, where private hors d’oeuvres and their signature drinks were waiting for them — a thoughtful touch they’ll never forget.

Having the ceremony, reception, after-party, and guest accommodations all in one location made the entire experience seamless. Guests repeatedly shared how convenient and enjoyable it was to celebrate without having to travel between venues.

A Day to Remember

Rachel and Joe describe their wedding at The Colonial as everything they hoped for and more. From the spacious ballroom to the all-inclusive planning experience, every detail was handled with care.

For couples dreaming of a wedding that feels effortless, elegant, and deeply personal, Rachel and Joe wholeheartedly recommend The Colonial Hotel — a place that helped turn their love story into a day they will cherish forever.
